For a pharmaceuticals manufacturer this system ensures the correct pills in good condition are in a blister pack before sealing.

Special lighting is used to detect the color and shape of each pill in a blister back before being sealed. The image to the right shows some of the challenges that had to be overcome. Note that this image is not a real indication of a product but a sample of different pills only.

The colors of translucent and opaque pills is determied as well as their shape. This allows identification of each pill and alerting of foreign objects, incorrect pills or damaged pills.
