Optical Character Regognition

Developed as part of a new freight handling warehouse this optical character recognition (OCR) software locates the postcode and its orientation and extracts the numbers for automatic sorting.

Large images of parcels (up to 6000×6000 pixels) are presented via a CameraLink interface. This should have one of several different types of consignment notes, some of which have machine printed addresses and post codes while others are hand written. If no consignment note (or postcode thereon) is found then the images are sent to the consoles of one of several operators for them to direct the parcel appropriately.
